This database comprises data about memorial places of historical value and places of religious reverence related to illustrious personages and outstanding events in connection with numerous settlements in Bács-Kiskun County.
The source of these data is the data collection ordered by the Cultural Department of the Bács-Kiskun County Council in 1989. The data sheets and the aspects of the data collection were determined accordingly. Then the sheets filled in and the photos taken were handed over to Katona József Library to preserve and process them. Katona József Library recorded the data in the course of its digitalisation programme, after a successful application supported by the Ministry of National Cultural Heritage. The work of those collecting the data was not of uniform quality and elaborateness, thus the description of the data in the database can not be uniform. Our aim was not only to provide the access to the contents of these data sheets, but also to archive them. So, we provide the whole text of the registered data. Those interested in the database can look, with the search function, at the original state in 1989 of the database.
We continue building the database that was closed in 1989. Many among the registered sculptures and memorial plaques from the year before the political transformation (nowadays a historical period) can not be seen as they have been perished in recent years. Thus, these registered data are extremely valuable ones for those researching the local history. We do hope that the pieces of information we provide are of particular importance for teachers, students and researchers and those interested in the local history and culture.
We would appreciate it if private individuals or NGO-s could contribute to this database with further pieces of knowledge concerning our county so that we can complete this database. Further information can be asked for on the phone no.: 76/500-576 or in e-mail message addressed to helyismeret [at] kjmk.hu.
