Musical collection

The biggest public collection - in our town and in our county - on the subject of music is waiting for everybody interested in listening to the virtuosos of classical music, the lively rhythm of folk music, the hit lists of pop music and the recorded literary works in the rendering of different performers, even on talking-book.In this diverse collection, the most valuable part within classical music is the collection of Kodály’s pieces of music.You can watch and borrow films from the collection, too.

Creative studio

Thanks to the project no.: EFOP-4.1.8-16-2017, with the grant provided by the European Union, the so-called Creative studio is formed on the first floor of our library.

The main goal of this library service is to allow the users to familiarize themselves with the production of multimedia content (film, music, programme), to support media literacy, to promote the documents of our library collection and, last but not least, to be beneficial to community development. In this new section of the library it is possible to record, edit and save sounds and films, to use multimedia contents as well as to play and practice musical instruments (play either the digital piano of the studio or other, own instruments).

Interested visitors are welcome, either alone or in group. Katona József Library is waiting for pupils’ groups from school-rooms, too. If you want to learn, to have better knowledge of the digital formats of modern multimedia contents, communication or simply to know the relevant literature, do no hesitate to turn to the librarians of the music section of Katona József Library.

Videotheque

In our Music Collection we have 2100 DVD-s - as the motto of our library says – ‘for a lifetime’. This collection comprises tales and animated films for very young children, the Hungarian and the universal film classics of the cinematographic art as well as the latest Hollywood blockbusters.

You can watch the films either in our music section on the spot, where for this purpose there are 4 computers with headphones, or you can also borrow them, thus, your home becomes a movie theatre and you can enjoy the films legally.

With one library card you can borrow 6 films at a time for a period of one week and for HUF 100,- /piece.

Listening to music

Our users having valid library membership may listen to the sound recordings from our Music Collection at two points of our library as follows: in the Children's World on the ground floor and in the Music services on the second floor.

The Children's World library section offers children under 12 folk tales and pieces of music popular among children, at 14 posts in the listening station.

In the unit of Music services there are comfortable armchairs for 12 persons and 10 channels for listening to the music pieces of the collection as well as to the programmes of 11 different - also local - radio stations.

Listen to music recommended by the channel no.6.

In the Music section, one of the channels reserved for listening to music on the spot is the channel no. 6. Its purpose is to showcase the music collection of the library. Every month the librarians of this service make a suggestion about particular sound recordings in connection with special events and different anniversaries to listen on the spot.

Locating compositions in the catalogue of the library

Musical works in the collection are recorded in the OLIB integrated library system with fully detailed bibliographic description. When searching for recorded sound materials, it is possible to search by:

author(s)
title, genre, performance or writing, no. of identification (opus number, HWV), tonality
performer(s)
style, period
subject
geographical / ethnic aspect
publisher
form of physical carrier (CD, LP, cassette, CD-ROM, DVD)

Type the search term you want to find, then limit the search to a form of physical carrier and click to select Hangfelvétel analitika. References joined with the item show further catalogue details, thus you can get more comprehensive information.
